Website was down, and USEast had some problems yesterday...

Yesterday, at about 7 PM Pacific, a faulty phone jack in the house had shorted out, which took the DSL line down with it until we could get the supplies needed to repair the jack. During this time, you could not access this site. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

But, before that happened, the US East gateway had some channel problems! Apparently, one of their servers had destabilized, and caused channels to "roll over"... I was temporarily banned from channel Clan [vL] (for an unrelated reason), and when I joined The Void, I saw others come and go, and chat as well. When I asked where they were, they said they were in a completely different channel. So I did a /who on that channel and there were more than 100 (!) people in it! lol... anyways, apparently, it wasn't just The Void that was affected, as there were people coming and going in other various channels. About 10 minutes after I had noticed the problem, though, Battle.net had apparently taken the problematic server down, because I (and some others) were disconnected from the server.

I'll be posting three screenshots of this (very weird) happening as next week's screenshot of the week!

MacBattleChat

I've added MacBattleChat to the competition list. As you can see, I have a (?) next to the DEAD statement, because I'm in the process of asking the author if he'd like to make an update to MacBattleChat to support the binary protocol. So far, so good! =]

One more thing...

I've has several people asking me if KaneBot will run on OS X. Yes, KaneBot will run on OS X. KaneBot will also run on OS 9. KaneBot will use carbon to run on both OS X and 9. I'm not sure, but perhaps KaneBot will also run on OS 8.6? Anyways... hopefully, this'll clear up some questions...

As you may or may not notice...

At the request of one viewer, I'll be cleaning up the website a little. While I'm doing this, I'll be updating the Competition download links, so that they work, even if you have to download them from a local directory on my (slow) webserver. The files which are hosted on my server will have "(local)" to the right of them.

(Update) I've modified the competition list slightly; now, if the bot has a website, and the website has been updated recently, then it's marked as "ACTIVE". As you can see, there are no bots marked as such. If the website does not appear to have been updated for a while, then it'll be marked as "NOT UPDATED". However, if the website no longer exists, then it's marked as "DEAD".

Also, if the bot has multiple authors, or the author doesn't have a valid email, then the "e-Mail bot author" link for the bot has been removed. Additionally, I'll be commenting-out the download URLs for the dead bots, since the link doesn't work anyways. However, you can still see the origional URL if you use your browser's "view HTML source" feature.

Seriously... if you know of *ANY* Macintosh Battle.net bot (binary or not) which is not on the list, whether active, not updated, or dead, please tell me! I'd like to keep an archive of all available Macintosh bots on this website.

Hard drive failure, but that's not stopping me... :-)

A hard drive failure has caused me to lose everything on my Programming partition which has changed within the past 2 days, including KaneBot. Luckily, I had a recent backup of the KaneBot source, which has allowed me to lose only a few hours worth of work on KaneBot!

Come back tomorrow morning at around 10 AM Pacific (at the latest) for the latest screenshot of the week!

The *only* Mac Battle.net bot?

Also, I've noticed that *all* of KaneBot's (known) competition is not being updated, and realized that KaneBot is the *only* Battle.net bot for Macintosh, let alone the only binary one... That is, unless there's another Mac bot which I don't know about? Know of another Macintosh bot? Tell me!

(To Undeference: I've never been able to reply to your emails, they always get bounced. Contact me as Kanezor on AIM, kane@clan-mac.com on MSN, or MacBinaryBot@USEast on Battle.net.)

I've decided to start up a picture of the week; whereas I add a new screenshot of what I'm working, at a random part of the week. Hopefully, this'll attract even more attention.

Keep those emails coming! I look forward to seeing the numbers of people that look forward to using my bot, lol. =]

By the way, I turned 17 last Wednesday. Wish me a happy birthday!

And one last thing... go send an email to Ryan Rempel, who makes XPostFacto, and tell him to hurry his StarMax support!
